The Drawbacks to MP3 Piracy

Unfortunately, there are many hidden costs to MP3 piracy.

Interestingly, as the popularity of MP3 piracy has increased, so have record companies' profits. Many experts speculate that MP3 piracy has become a supplement to music sales, not a replacement. People may download a few MP3s to get a taste of an album, but subsequently buy the album instead of downloading the remainder. This provides the listener with the comparatively better sound quality of the CD, and it reimburses the artists for their work. The music industry's losses from MP3 piracy may actually be offset by the highly effective free advertising that the MP3s provide.
